openstreetVR is an experimental platform for viewing Geolocated VR 360 still and video content.
The platform has been tested with the new HP and Acer Mixed Reality Headsets using the
Edge browser on Windows 10 Creator. We are working on supporting Windows Mixed Reality in the Chrome and Firefox browsers.
Both browsers already support Cardboard, Gear and other viewers.
The site has content from Vancouver, Los Angeles and several other locations. Additional content is being added.
Pressing the LA and Vn buttons moves between Vancouver and LA. To pan press the left button and move the mouse.
To zoom in or out press the + or - buttons or use the scroll wheel. A city search in the upper right.
Clicking a marker brings up a content description.
Left click takes you to viewable VR 360 picture or video.
A right click opens the content in a new window. Some content takes a while to load - be patient.
Click the lower right goggle symbol to immerse in an attached headset. Hit ESC to exit immersion. Click the video to start and stop play.
User created VR content addition to the site with search will be available shortly.
openstreetVR contains a mix of 360 still images and 360 videos. The site allows Window Mixed Reality devices
to immerse by clicking on the lower right google icon using only the Edge browser in Windows 10 Creator - no downloads or app is required.
A marker near the Second Narrows bridge in Vancouver has three high resolution 360 images (10K, 12K and 15K) known as the Graffiti Wall.
The 15K image is the highest pixel density image on the site and is close to the minimum level of detail required for full realistic VR
Most of the images and videos are 4K. Please allow time for the image/video to load.
Immersion has been tested on Windows Creator and Fall Creator (Beta build 16299).
